Mrs Fingal's summer holidays

You might think  , given it  is  now  4 September   that I  may have been on holiday  ALL summer  ..!       But as  a  good friend  puts it    ' I try to live  a life that  actually does not require    holidays '.  oh  ha!!!     Being self employed   we  both live in hope  of  achieving this  goal .......
if  summer   is  now fading  the  glorious  richness  of  autumn  harvest  ,  in colours  , food and  light  is now giving us super energy .

I have never  tried  either  Brambles  or  Blaeberries  for dyeing  , to much  to enjoy on the taste  senses!  Berry dyes  are  also  very volatile  & sensitive  to light   ,  Much BETTER to  eat & enjoy !

So  quite before  I ratchet   up another level  in preparation for #Lochnessknitfest  I  just  wanted to  let you know  Mrs Fingal did escape for a few  nights to the machair of South Uist.    Quite   spectacular  !  The sound of the ocean , the   light ,  the endless horizons . The  colours   of  sea,  flowers , shells    and the moon on the water.
One  totally mesmerising  acoustic experience  was listening  to ( & watching )  a small river   join the sea  on a  gentle  gradient. Every  12 seconds or so    there was  this   orchestra of sound coming from the water  as  the  pull of the tide , still  ebbing , reacted with the    down ward  journey of the fresh water  & the  ripple/ gurgle   effect was   quite   magical ... fluent fingers  travelling across a keyboard .

This boat carcass  had been  exposed by the tides   , since our last visit to   South Uist. Giving us endless  shapes, textures & colours to play with artistically .

This   image  is  now carved into my soul   . When the sun  came  cutting over the horizon  at  5  on our last morning  , it was  quite  totally  inspiring !!!!!!!!!!   This is  one of  several   dozen images !
5 DAYS on South Uist   fairly  set me up   for a busy    felting August  which continues now  for  the rest of year  .    Thank you to  both  #PooleweTuesdayMarket  the summer markets  at #TheLochTorridon Centre  . Lovely days   at these   local  events  . Catching up with  the many talented  artisans & neighbours in our area.  Meeting  some of our summer visitors,  conversations about  sheep , plant dyes AND  creative energy .  Ruth & Andyin your camper van ,  from 'near Frankfurt  '  I would love to be stay in touch ! Some of this season's  #Florries   now in France, Germany , America.  Thank you to all these   summer  customers. With still a couple of markets to go here  in Torridon . Then we hit the  autumn   trail  ....

This begins with the  inuagural  3  day   #lochnessknitfest at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness..  Sumptous  !!!  29 September -  2 October  .   For which I am madly making.

Lincoln Longwool  fibres on the  drum carder.
