OF ELVES & MYSTICAL THINGS It was great to be back at the #Poolewe Christmas Market on Saturday . Most of last week was dedicated to felting production in preparation for it . So while the gales lashed hard rain at us I had the welcome task of being confined indoors to the felting table . It was a joy to be working with #Lincoln Longwool again too, Ohho..... their lustrous ,lustrous curls !!! & working on pieces for people I know well and sometimes just playing .... with colours & textures . Playing (non competitively ) seems too often to be the domain of only the young these days . Exploring the proven value of play , is something too often missing from our daily adult routines. I feel so very lucky to have not only discovered the felt making process , in my textile journey , but be able to express myself through this magical medium. It connects me to our ancient past, something so old it holds deep mystery, as with every massage of new fibres with hot soapy suds the fibres magically bond together. Poolewe Hall was full of magic & mystery on Saturday , elves of all ages beavering away in creative harmony . A bringing together of so many talents , tastes & textures. So very lucky to have such a great artistic community in this neck of the woods. I wonder what percentage f our tiny population earn more than just a crust from their artistic endeavours .. ? The gales abated on Sunday ~ welcome day of rest , celebration & treasures. One benefit of the high winds was to be able to gather in a few windblown lichens for the dye pot - rich golds & sunshiny yellows will be found from them..... more magic & mystery . Valuable timeout towards inspiration for another feltscape to be undertaken in the week ahead. Last week I posted a cartoon of feltscape work in process , here is an image of the finished piece Northton Sunset ~ the finished work 20 x 30 inches on a canvas |
